From Two-Equation Turbulence Models to Minimal Error Resolving Simulation Methods for Complex Turbulent Flows

چکیده

Hybrid RANS-LES methods are supposed to provide major contributions future turbulent flow simulations, in particular for reliable predictions under conditions where validation data unavailable. However, existing hybrid suffer from essential problems. A solution these problems is presented as a generalization of previously introduced continuous eddy simulation (CES) methods. These methods, obtained by relatively minor extensions standard two-equation turbulence models, represent minimal error An observation here that incompressible flows can be extended stratified and compressible flows, which opens the way addressing relevant atmospheric science (mesoscale microscale coupling) aerospace (supersonic or hypersonic predictions). It also reported valuable design consistent models significant modeling uncertainties.

Parallel simulation of three-dimensional complex flows: Application to two-phase compressible flows and turbulent wakes

In this paper, we present parallel simulations of three-dimensional complex flows obtained on an ORIGIN 3800 computer and on homogeneous and heterogeneous (processors of different speeds and RAM) computational grids. The solver under consideration, which is representative of modern numerics used in industrial computational fluid dynamics (CFD) software, is based on a mixed element-volume method...

Numerical Methods to Simulate Turbulent Dispersed Flows in Complex Geometries

Population Balance is a prominent ingredient of modeling transport phenomena. Population Balance Equations (PBEs) are coupled to Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) to simulate turbulent dispersed flows. One of the arising challenges is to obtain an appropriate discretization technique for the internal coordinate of PBEs, so the resulting equations can lead to acceptable solutions with affordabl...

Multiscale Methods for the Simulation of Turbulent Flows

In this paper we apply the finite difference method on adaptive sparse grids [9] to the simulation of turbulent flows. This method combines the flexibility and efficiency of finite difference schemes with the advantages of an adaptive approximation by tensor product multiscale bases. We shortly discuss the method. Then, we present numerical results for a simple linear convection problem for a v...

Application of the Schwarz-Christoffel Transformation in Solving Two-Dimensional Turbulent Flows in Complex Geometries

In this paper, two-dimensional turbulent flows in different and complex geometries are simulated by using an accurate grid generation method. In order to analyze the fluid flow, numerical solution of the continuity and Navier-Stokes equations are solved using CFD techniques. Considering the complexity of the physical geometry, conformal mapping is used to generate an orthogonal grid by means of...

Computer Simulation of Active Control in Complex Turbulent Flows

Advances in high-performance computing and Large-Eddy Simulation (LES) have made it possible to obtain accurate solutions to complex, turbulent flows at moderate Reynolds numbers. With these advances, computational modeling of turbulent flows in order to develop, evaluate, and optimize active control strategies is feasible. Such control schemes can be used to improve the performance of engineer...
